A Response to the Reno Air Race Tragedy

A Response to the Reno Air Race Tragedy

(via Active 20-30 Blog)

Below is an email sent this morning to the Presidents Club email list. Please share this with your members and friends as you wish. -t

Tragedies, like the one at the Reno Air Races yesterday, really drive home just how small of a community Active 20-30 is. I'm pleased to say that none of members were injured in the crash, but saddened that many are surely impacted - through the experiences of family and friends who were there, for example.

I can tell you personally how much it meant to get a text message "are you safe?" following the Sugarland stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair last month that killed 7, including my cousin's close friends. It warms my heart that the same happened yesterday with Active 20-30ians reaching out to those in the Reno area to make sure everyone was immediately safe. This is what our small community of members is all about. It's about members like those in Brentwood, NY who chose to act immediately and staff the shelter as the recent hurricane bore down on their neighborhood. Even the fires in AZ, NM and TX have impacted our members and communities in varying ways.

I'm sure the needs of the Reno community will be great over the coming days, weeks and months as everyone deals with this unique experience. I've had people ask what we - members and the association of Active 20-30 - should do for Reno. As the dust settles, we'll look to the Nevada clubs to tell us what we can do for their communities - be it financial support or supplies for a project to help the kids who witnessed the crash or simply prayers and well-wishes.

If you feel compelled to act immediately (as many of us do), head over to your local blood bank and donate if you are able. From the news reports of most crises, blood is one of the first and greatest needs. A few of our clubs hold organized blood drives regularly. This is a great way to remember and honor those impacted by all of the tragic events that seem to never find an end.

Finally, please know that I'm truly honored to be among a group of people who care so much for their fellow members and for strangers in their times of need.

Yours in service,
Trena
